A great group of about 40 students at Christopher Newport University met last night for the first meeting of the CNU chapter of Students for Obama to make plans to do their part to reelect the president.
It was also an opportunity for these students to remind each other of why it's so important to win in November. Austin, a junior, on the issue of equality, said that he "couldn't imagine having a president who promotes treating some Americans like second-class citizens," drawing a round of applause.
“President Obama is the reason I have health insurance right now,” said one student. Another praised the President's successful efforts to make education affordable and more accessible by increasing funding and doubling Pell Grants.
Whatever the reason, The Christopher Newport University Captains are pumped to reelect Barack Obama. These students will be heading out across campus and into the Newport News community over the next few days to register more voters and get the president's message out. The Captains will be out this Saturday registering voters on campus before the football game against Salisbury. Follow them on Twitter.
