When I moved to Tucson as an incoming freshman at the University of Arizona, I immediately searched for ways to get involved. As I considering things such as clubs and sports teams, I learned that Organizing for America had a Fellowship program. I immediately went through the application process! I knew that the work would be hard. I knew that the hours would be long. But I also knew that it would be worth it. However, the one thing that I never expected was that this program would completely change my life.
Ever since President Obama first ran for president, I was always a huge supporter. I loved how he really stood up for the average American family, and how he truly believed in our country. But I never got too involved in 2008 because I didn’t think that one person could really make a difference. The Fellowship program has proved me wrong. Since I began, my neighborhood teams have registered over a hundred voters, called thousands of volunteers, and started a movement on campus that will lead us to victory in 2012.
And this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to stay involved, to register a thousand new voters, and to show people that when you fight for what you believe in, change is more than a slogan. I’m signing up for another fellowship; join me as a Spring Fellow in Arizona.
