Throughout the Triad, local volunteer leaders are gathering in the community to lay the beginning foundation of the 2012 campaign.
President Obama made it very clear that we need to take complete ownership of this campaign and that is exactly what we are doing in the Triad region. From coffee shops, to book stores, to local diners during lunch breaks--volunteers are sitting down and having one-on-one conversations, reengaging supporters and strategizing on how to best shape our campaign.”
Volunteer leaders such as Alice and Gordon P. were very active in the 2008 and 2010 elections. They have been attending Weekly Greensboro Phone Banks and meeting with fellow supporters in their neighborhoods to talk about our "I'm In" phase of the campaign.
“There are a lot of misrepresentations out there and we have to keep telling people the truth about what the President's been accomplishing. We’ve got a great President and that’s a fact. People need to hear the truth.”- Bob K.
“I wasn’t old enough to vote in 2008, but I canvassed and made a lot of phone calls. Now that I get to vote, I want to focus on educating more of the younger people like myself on why we need to get involved.”- Jacob R.
Over in Winston Salem, volunteers are hosting House Meetings with their neighbors, co-workers, families, community leaders and friends to share an overview of what the "I'm In" program looks like for us here in North Carolina.
8 year old, Gregory W. accompanied his mom to a 1:1 meeting and his whole face lit up when he was asked why he was in, “I’m In because President Obama makes good decisions and he meets a lot of the goals he sets.”
Shirrell,Gregory’s mother adds, “I’m in because of him [Gregory]. His education and his future is too important and we can't sit this out.”
People are happy to get involved again and long time supporter and Precinct Chair Jeannie G, currently hosts Weekly Phone Banks in Kernersville at her house. She mentioned,
“In 2008, I met so many wonderful people and I became part of a movement bigger than myself. I've been chomping at the bit ever since, and volunteered to help organize my precinct because I couldn't wait to get started again. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help re-elect President Obama and elect Democrats all the way down the line.”
As we continue to engage and mobilize volunteers over the next few months, we each have to be leaders in our communities. This movement begins with us; the work we do together and the relationships we build, are critical towards keeping North Carolina blue and winning the future. Our engines are revved up and we are fired up! The Triad is most certainly "IN"!
