I spent most of my life as military child. While my father served for about 25 years in the Army, my family and I went through the struggle of war, moving around, and constantly having to adjust to different life styles. It was a struggle then, and it's even more of a struggle now that my father is a retired veteran. However, thanks to President Obama, we’ve seen great support for veterans like my dad. Not only has he boosted the Veterans Affairs budget, he has also taken care of veterans when they return home with the Post 9/11 GI Bill, increases in mental health services, and tax credits to incentivize the hiring of veterans. Health care is a blessing in my family, but I face a personal struggle as I am a Type 1 Diabetic. Thanks to The Affordable Care Act, I’m able to stay on my parents insurance until I’m 26, and I can’t be denied access to health insurance.
I’m also a college student with growing student loans, and because of the President’s student loan reform I have a chance to go to school, work hard and have a fair shot at making it in the world. What’s at stake in this election is personal to me. This is why I’m fighting to get President Obama to 270 electoral votes as a Tennessee Organizing Fellow. I want people who share my struggles to feel like hard work and responsibility does pay off in our country. I want our country to be a place where everyone plays by the same set of rules and where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their dreams. That’s why here in Clarksville, TN, I’m dedicating my summer to protect my family, and keep our country moving forward – but I can’t do it by myself. Will you help me fight to protect my health care and ensure benefits for my veteran father by attending an event near you?
