Hello fellow Obama supporters! My name is Chelsea and I am one of the new summer organizing fellows with Obama 2012. Over the summer, I will be taking you along on my journey as I work from the ground up to get out the vote for President Obama. As I am more of a photographer than a writer, I will be traveling my home state of Minnesota and documenting my experience through a lens rather than a pen (so to speak).
This past week marked the beginning of my journey as a fellow and so far it’s off to a great start. On Sunday I joined three dozen staff, fellows, and volunteers at the LGBT Pride Parade in Minneapolis to show the LGBT community that the President has their backs. The crowd’s support for the President was overwhelming as they joined in our chants of “O-BA-MA” and “Fired up! Ready to go!”
Though I am not a member of the LGBT community, I am a firm believer in equal rights for all, particularly marriage equality. I have too many friends and family who have faced discrimination just because of who they love. I could not be more proud of the President for standing on the side of marriage equality—and based on the show of support during the parade, Minneapolis agrees!
If you have never been in a parade, now is the perfect time to join: Next week is the 4th of July and there will be thousands of voter registration parades around the country. Just visit www.barackobama.com/events to find one near you.
