I can’t believe it’s already been 4 years. I’ve been a volunteer for the President since 2008 and whenever someone asks me why I’ve given so much of my time, I have a pretty simple answer: because President Obama says the word “we” so much.
The President believes that we are capable of accomplishing big things by working together. He believes that we are greater together.
First Lady Michelle Obama believes this too. That’s why I was excited on Monday when I had the opportunity to introduce Mrs. Obama on a special conference call she held for North Carolinians.
The First Lady held the call to thank volunteers for their hard work and to discuss the important issues of the 2012 election, issues like finding jobs for veterans when they return home and improving the quality of education for our children.
These issues touch the lives of so many North Carolinians. It was wonderful to hear the First Lady’s unique perspective and energy when talking about the President’s outstanding record of accomplishment on these issues.
Mrs. Obama has always had a special place in my heart. I was truly inspired when she came down to Camp Lejune in Jacksonville last year to launch her Joining Forces program for military families. As a retired schoolteacher, I recognize that the President has worked to raise the standards in our public schools so kids are better prepared for college.
As she ended the call, Mrs. Obama talked about all the work we still had to do over the next 7 months to make sure the President gets reelected. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready.
Because, like the First Lady and the President, I believe in the power of we. That’s my inspiration. We truly are greater together. That idea keeps me going every single day.
Join me in re-electing President Obama and standing up for the America we all believe in.
