The world is run by those who show up.
That's what Jane J. said in her Bozeman living room recently about her involvement in local government and in the Obama campaign.
Jane and her husband, Jack, said they developed their social consciousness through the civil rights movement of the 1960s and this social awareness was reawakened when President Obama ran for President in 2008.
"This is the first time since [President] Kennedy that I've felt the United States was on a hopeful track for civil engagement and mutual respect for all classes of people," Jack said.
"I thought [Obama] was the most intellectually prepared candidate for president since Kennedy," added Jane. "His eloquence stems not from a good speech writer but from clarity of thought."
The pair said they are excited about the enthusiasm Obama has generated in youth and that Jane's experience in government makes her understand Obama can't be expected to please everyone immediately. She thinks he has dealt with incredible leadership challenges brilliantly.
Jack is a poet, outdoorsman and retired university professor. Jane is a retired local government official. She served 14 years as a Gallatin County commissioner. They say they found the cutout online and have enjoyed having it in their home.
