Q. Tell me a little about yourself.
I am a 22 year old college student attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where I will earn a BA in Criminal Justice in December. I am of African American, Irish, and German heritage. My family is my motivation: my siblings are my best friends, and my parents raised me to be myself and keep an open mind. All I want to do with my future is change the world for the better in my own little way. I have an amazing afro.
Q. Why did you decide to become an OFA-Missouri summer organizing fellow?
Because I did not feel like I was doing enough to support President Obama. President Barack Obama is the President for me. His values and beliefs are reflected in his agenda and policies, and they apply directly to my life. I wanted to contribute to his re-election efforts, and working as a fellow was the perfect path to accomplish this goal.
Q. What has been the highlight of your experience as a fellow so far?
The highlight has been voter registration. I love registering individuals. Every day I run into people who do not believe they have a voice to be heard on November 6, 2012. All these people need is for someone to whisper in their ears that they do have a voice and that their vote counts! Seeing people take the initiative and making decisions about their future by completing a voter registration form is truly awesome.
Q. What would you like to say to Missourians about the importance of voting in November?
Missourians needs to show this nation that we are not a red state. Politics and government affect you directly, shouldn't you take the opportunity to be involved? Everyone has a voice, and every vote counts.
Q. What would you tell others who might be considering becoming a fall fellow?
Do it! I have learned that my support for the President neither begins nor ends in the voting booth. If you are in the position to contribute your time to the campaign, do it. Through this experience I have learned skills that have practical applications in many fields going forward. I have met awesome people. And, most importantly, on November 6, 2012 I will know that I played a role in getting our President re-elected.
As Alexis says, DO IT! Apply to be a fall fellow with OFA-Missouri today.
