There are many interpretations of what a role model is. For Arnetta K., a fall fellow, it is volunteering for the Obama campaign.
“I wanted to be a role model for my children and show them how important it is to be involved in the political process and what is going on in the world. It is so important to teach them that they do have a voice and that their vote will count.”
The right timing and passion: two things that led Arnetta to apply for the Fall Fellows program.
When Arnetta received an email from Obama for America encouraging her to apply to the Fall Fellows program, she was preparing for the end of the school year. For the past six years, she had been a teacher.
Then the unthinkable happened. Arnetta was let go from her job due to lack of funding in her school district.
As she began her search for another job, Arnetta received a phone call informing her that she had been accepted as a fall fellow.
“I felt that this was my chance to be a part of something bigger than myself at an extremely important time in the history of our country! President Obama is a champion for all Americans. He has been inundated by tremendous obstacles and challenges and has faced them with strength, intelligence, vision, and action.”
As a Fall Fellow, Arnetta wants to build strong teams in her turf to ensure that President Obama is re-elected. She realizes that the President has a full-time job, and is ready to lend her time to help him out on his campaign.
“My mission is to use every opportunity that comes my way to talk about the President and his accomplishments.”
Arnetta and other organizers will be working hard these next few months to continue to build up a grassroots organization across Illinois, and they need your help! Find a local event or sign up to volunteer.
