"It's just people talking to people."
If you're on the fence about whether or not to sign up to come with us to Iowa this Saturday, just keep that simple truth in mind. There are some tips and tricks that will help ensure that you have a great experience, but there is no secret to what makes a great canvasser. Anyone can do it!
Ann, who has worked on each of Barack Obama’s campaigns since he ran for the US Senate in 2003, looks back fondly on the three out-of-state trips she made to Wisconsin and Michigan in 2008.
"Most people are very receptive and just want to hear why you support the President," she explains. Ann also understands each trip that we make contributes to a larger goal of "restoring the political conversation." She believes that the president's run in 2008 was a large step in that direction.
"That election created such a wonderful spirit of hope and excitement. There was also a degree of civility that I hadn't seen in a long time in our country. And the energy from the younger kids was just great."
So what are you waiting for? Add your voice to the conversation and travel with us to Iowa this Saturday. As Ann is quick to remind would-be canvassers, the process of talking with voters is refreshingly simple:
"All you need to do is be yourself. You wouldn't be there if you didn't believe that there was a need."
