On Wednesday evening I had the privilege to hear Ruth Harkin, wife of Senator Tom Harkin, speak to an overflow crowd of women (and a few men) at the Iowa City Public Library.
From reproductive rights to health care to paycheck fairness, Mrs. Harkin drew a stark contrast between President Obama and his Republican opponent. She made a clear case for the importance of these issues, not just to women but to their families and the economy as a whole. I felt empowered, both by Mrs. Harkin and by the women sitting around me.
We're lucky to have such a tireless advocate for women's rights. We're also lucky to have so many hardworking women organizing events, making calls and knocking on doors for this campaign. I left the library feeling confident that together the women of Iowa are going to make a difference in this election.
