Jan is a full-time student and self-described "mother of two amazing kids." She's standing up for President Obama's jobs plan because she hopes it will help students while they're in school and after they graduate.
"I'm at the University of Central Florida, studying psychology with a minor in crime law and deviance, so I'm hoping to do something in juvenile justice after I graduate. I'm hoping the President's plan would stir up some new jobs by the time I graduate, because right now there's nothing."
Jan is also excited about the President's additional reforms to the student loan system.
"I like his idea about student loans, having them forgiven after 20 years—I really like that. That's pretty much all I'm living on at this point, and the thought of paying them off is a little daunting. I know I need to, and that's fine, but knowing at least there's a limit is really nice. I would like to retire someday, and I know that could end up stopping me, so I really like this policy. I like everything about it."
A supporter of the President since 2008, Jan says proposing the American Jobs Act is one of his most important accomplishments so far.
"He's done so much—ending the Iraq war, extending unemployment insurance last year—but I think this jobs plan is huge. I think it was the right time to propose it, when so many people are feeling very negative and down. We need this."
"It makes me angry when people oppose it," says Jan. "There are so many hardworking people who need jobs, and it seems the people who oppose the plan have this idea that we're all slackers and lazy, and that's the farthest thing from the truth. It bothers me so much. It would be nice if we could work together for the same thing, and I would think jobs would be a no-brainer."
Even though she's struggling right now, Jan is quick to point out that she's looking forward to the future.
"I have no life. I spend my time working with my kids and doing my schoolwork. It's nice for all of us to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel with me graduating, and hopefully it'll be better by that time."
