My fall fellowship has empowered me, inspired me, challenged me and gave purpose to my passion. Each day, each week brought the thrill of new opportunities and new challenges. I will never forget the Friday night before a Day of Action, assembling canvass packages with Northern Arizona University Students for Obama, Kevin and Joe, enthusiastically chatting, hoping it wouldn’t snow for our canvass.
It did, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Our team still came together, smiling and knocking on doors. The pride I felt watching their enthusiasm and determination is a priceless reward.
From the delighted high school student first registering to vote to the passionate college student discussing student loan reform to the retired volunteer hopeful to see enthused youth, all joining together, for different reasons, but with a common purpose: to re-elect President Barack Obama.
This fellowship has given me the opportunity to develop skills and relationships that have a direct impact on community. It has been inspiring to watch volunteers come together, making hundreds of calls, and walking their neighborhoods, taking responsibility for the change that we believe in.
President Obama once said that, “It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things.” Be a doer. Become a Spring Fellow in Arizona.
