“I didn’t even realize how empowering it was going to be”

Sara is voting for the first time for Barack Obama.

When she turned 18, Sara did two things: got her driver’s license, and registered to vote. Even then she knew that voting was the most personal and important act of civic engagement.

This time around Sara is doing more than just casting her ballot to support President Obama—she's making sure her fellow students get registered to vote too.

“I didn’t even realize how empowering it was going to be.

“This election, students are making or breaking their future. We can finally call the shots, and we need to.

“I tell fellow Hispanics my age that this is their opportunity to shape what happens, to make sure we keep moving forward on important issues like the DREAM Act, and voting is how to do that.
