Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing you to some of the faces of this campaign: supporters, staff, and volunteers who are working hard every day, often behind the scenes, to grow our movement.
Jackie from Tampa, Florida was an intern with the digital team in Chicago this summer.
I’ve been blown away by the passion of the people I’ve met these past two months, from the supporters who told me their stories to the organizers who work all day every day to re-elect President Obama.
As a digital intern, the hours were long, the work was hard, but it was totally worth it. No two days were the same. I sat in a room and listened to David Axelrod explain why he believes in the President. I spent hours on the phone talking to supporters about building the campaign in their neighborhood. I wrote words, I checked emails, I did whatever I could to help the team, and I never made coffee for anyone but myself.
The 2008 election was the first one I voted in and President Obama was the first candidate I campaigned for. I became interested in politics in the mid-2000s. I was applying to college, beginning to think about what I wanted to do with my future, and realized that the country wasn’t going in the direction I wanted it to. I think the President’s approach is the right one—he’s taking the country towards where I want it to be when I’m older.
In college, I studied public policy with a focus on health care. We’ve needed health care reform for so long in this country, and then President Obama came along and got it done. It was impressive.
I applied to be a summer intern with the campaign because I wanted to do something real—to play my part in getting the President re-elected in 2012. If you’re thinking of applying to be a fall intern I couldn’t encourage you more—you’ll see firsthand why politics and policies matter.
I start at law school this week, but that doesn’t mean I’ve left the campaign—I’ll be organizing on campus this year, and I’ll be back next summer to do what I can to help re-elect President Obama and keep the country going in the direction I want it to.
We're looking for hardworking, talented folks like Jackie to join our team as fall interns in our Chicago headquarters. If that sounds like you, apply here or share the link with people you know who want to have a fall they'll never forget.
