President Obama has been a strong ally for queer and trans folks since his first day in office. He is the first sitting president to say loud and proud that my love is just as good as anyone else’s, and that our laws ought to recognize that. Under his watch we’ve seen both Don’t Ask Don’t Tell repealed and passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act. But he hasn’t just gone for the flashy stuff like marriage, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and hate crimes—he’s doing the hard policy work too. From federal housing programs to hospital visitation rights, from trans-inclusive passports to anti-bullying work, we’ve seen progress in every area of our lives. And he’s not doing it for the votes—he’s doing it because it’s right and it’s time.
President Obama has my back as a gay man. This November I’ll have his back too.
