By Robert J., Summer Organizer
I was introduced to the campaign by my Aunt Joanne and Uncle Rich, who are active volunteers in Las Cruces. After arriving home from my freshman year at Eastern New Mexico University, I started working with the campaign the next day! I find the hard work to be fun, and enjoyable, because I know I am making a difference.
Recently my State Field Director Pam Coleman, and my State Director Ray Sandoval, gave me the opportunity to represent the campaign at the NE Heights Democrats BBQ. The BBQ was coordinated by a terrific team of Democrats, organized by Ward Chair Tom S. who is exceptionally politically active.
I set up a table to collect "I'm In" sign-up cards and photographs, set up "1 on 1" meetings, and registered people to vote. The people were very receptive and many came over to set up a meeting and even more filled out "I'm In" cards. U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich also was in attendance; he answered questions from the crowd.
So many of the attendees went out of their way to tell me how happy they were to see a college student involved in the process. I know young people care about the future of our country and about the President. One of my jobs this summer will be to recruit more young volunteers, and to help them get engaged.
