As storms rolled through downtown Chicago last night, a group of determined volunteers rallied in Federal Plaza to send a message to Republican Senator Mark Kirk: The time is now for immigration reform.
On Tuesday, Kirk was one of only 15 senators who tried to block the Senate from even debating immigration reform. Had he been successful, there would have been no chance for reform, and the broken status quo would have remained.
"I came to this country when I was five, so immigration reform is something I feel very strongly about," said Marnee Ostoa, one of the intrepid volunteers who braved the rain with homemade signs demanding that the Senate pass reform this summer.
OFA volunteers will be organizing events like this one all throughout the month as the Senate moves closer to a final vote. Find an event in your neighborhood, and let's keep up the pressure on Congress to get the job done.
