“Fair share”

Instead of accusing hardworking Americans of failing to pay their fair share, shouldn’t we stand up for them?

When Mitt Romney callously claimed that 47% of Americans are not pulling their weight, he attacked millions of hardworking people who already pay a significant share of their income in taxes—including Social Security, state taxes, local taxes, gas, sales, and property taxes. Romney paid just 14% in federal taxes last year on over $13 million of income, a lower tax rate than many middle-class families. And yet he believes it’s fair that multimillionaires like himself pay a lower tax rate than many middle-class families.
