President Obama has worked with all Americans in pursuit of the common good and has been a strong defender of religious rights. As he said, “My commitment to protecting religious liberty is and always will be unwavering.”
But a right-wing fringe PAC, Government Is Not God PAC (GING-PAC), is purchasing full-page newspaper ads in Florida to launch bizarre and wildly false allegations of anti-Christian attacks. The group claims the President’s “true agenda” is to “force doctors to assist homosexuals in buying surrogate babies,” “force Christian schools to hire non-Christian teachers,” and even “force creation of a permanent government funded ‘underclass.’” These unfounded claims are ridiculous and conjured up by a very small PAC that has quite literally spent all its money launching such fabricated smears. As of September 9th, 2012, the group was $7,706 in debt.
But GING-PAC has a long history of spending its diminutive war chest on a large number of outrageous attacks. In 2008, the group attacked his family members and released fake news videos to “sound the alarm” over possible consequences of his election. This year, GING-PAC used the anniversary of September 11th to tell Americans that the President was “reared by Muslims.” And their concocted list of things"Obama hates” is long, including “Obama hates the military;” “Obama hates the U.S. Constitution;” “Obama hates religious liberty;” and “Obama hates America as a force for freedom in the world.”
Along with trying to defeat President Obama on behalf of Mitt Romney, who else is GING-PAC supporting this year? Missouri GOP senate candidate Todd Akin—the same man who declared that victims of “legitimate rape” don’t actually get pregnant because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Rather than rebuke these comments, GING-PAC declared, “We will not abandon Akin. Todd Akin is a long-time friend of GING-PAC and the Religious Freedom Coalition…we have no intention of throwing our friend under the bus.”
GING-PAC’s clear, right-wing agenda cannot distract from the fact that President Obama’s life and leadership is grounded in his own Christian faith and his conviction in our country’s core value of religious liberty. Learn more about how the President is leading with these values here.
