My name is Ashley F. and I grew up in a small suburb just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout my life I have always focused on school, pushing myself to achieve my full potential and obtain a college degree. This goal began to materialize as I entered college and stepped into a world my sister and I were the first to experience in my family. I fully committed myself to my studies and graduated with a degree in Political Science this month!
I accomplished a goal I've worked my entire life to achieve; but my studies have sparked a new goal—becoming an active leader in my community and formulating domestic policies that will help all Americans. That’s why I decided to become an organizing fellow with President Obama re-election campaign here in Cincinnati, and why I’m looking forward to attending graduate school for Public Policy in the fall.
While this new journey is about to begin I’ll have to bear the burden and cost of higher education in the United States, student loans and all. Thankfully, President Obama has my back.
Because the Affordable Care Act allows me to stay on my parent’s health insurance until I’m 26, I won’t have to worry about the costs of health insurance as I continue my education. Not only does this relieve me of a very serious financial burden—it has also empowered me to achieve my academic goals in graduate school.
President Obama’s determination to pass health care reform in his first term made it clear that he was looking out for people like me, and it’s why I couldn’t help but get involved in helping re-elect him.
June 1st is the deadline to apply to be a summer organizing fellow in Ohio. Apply today or share the application with your friends and family.
