• Women for Obama Gearing Up in Minnesota

This week, the First Lady launched Women for Obama and encouraged Minnesotan women to join our grassroots organization and support the President. Last week we had another female leader who supports the President here in Minneapolis -- DNC Chair and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was in town to talk with OFA-Minnesota volunteers about the work the President is doing, the 2012 elections and the importance of building our grassroots organization right now.

Ann L. was one of the volunteers who visited with the Chair while she was here:

I was one of about 50 volunteers who had a chance to hear Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and get all geared up for the job of working on President Obama's re-election. Most of us in attendance were fairly new to the campaign and were eagerly awaiting the progressive icons that were about to address us. I can't think of any people better qualified for the job.

We were addressed by Rep. Keith Ellison, Mayor R.T. Rybak and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Their regard for the President and enthusiasm for the job was very infectious. I am not a political professional and really don't know how these things work behind the scenes but came to the session with a lot of questions. It was so great to see that every question posed had obviously been completely thought out and was presented to our politically virgin ears in a way that was clear, helpful and energizing.

The part of the conversation that I think is going to ring the loudest in Minnesota is how the President's agenda is the big tent - no matter where you are from or what color you are, there is a place for you with OFA. We are a group that cares about a greater good and that is important to the people of Minnesota. I can already see that this is a great group of people to work with and I look forward to the next year!

Join other women, friends and neighbors in your community to talk about the progress the president has fought for - plan a house party or another event today! And check out the Women for Obama website to connect with the campaign and learn more about President Obama’s accomplishments for women and families.
