When Alon heard that Mitt Romney had selected Paul Ryan as his running mate, he knew he had to work even harder to help re-elect President Obama. As a student and young America, Alon has a huge stake in this election.
“Paul Ryan has never stood up for me. His plan would cut Pell Grant scholarships for nearly 10 million students, including myself. If he and Romney are able to pass their plan, my family will have a much harder time affording college. It especially hurts when I realize they would cut these scholarships just so they can pass huge tax cuts for the wealthy.
“Under their plan, my family would also pay much higher taxes. Paul Ryan has never supported middle class families like us. In addition to raising our taxes, he would gut important programs like Medicare and Social Security. My parents are nearing retirement, and it scares me to know that Romney would pick someone who is so set on drastically cutting the programs they will rely on.
“Not only would Romney and Ryan hurt my family, but I think they would move the country backward. Ryan supported a ban on certain types of birth control, and also a ban on abortions even in the case of rape of incest. He also voted against the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
“When Romney chose Ryan, I knew I had to work even harder to get President Obama reelected. Romney has cemented the fact that he is on the far-right, and I simply can’t afford the budget he and Ryan want to pass. This election is about my future, and that’s why I’m doing all I can to support the President.”
