• Voices from the field: Matt Van Deren

Matt with the Statue of Liberty in Seattle

One of our King County Field Organizers, Matt Van Deren joined the Obama campaign in 2008 as an intern at the DNC in Denver. He rejoined earlier this year as a Washington State Party intern and says he’s excited to reelected the President whom he says “is truly a President of the people.”

“At the end of the day,” Van Deren said, “Barack Obama is the President who is going to make the decisions that are not only going to make the society in which I want to live, but also to affect my family in a positive way. At the end of the day, he has done a lot of really incredible things, but there are still a lot of things that should be done.”

Over the coming months, Van Deren will be working closely with the neighborhood teams in North Seattle, Fremont and Ballard, and Queen Anne and Magnolia to ensure the President has a chance to get those things done in his second term.

“Obama is truly the President of the people,” Van Deren said. “Rather than just representing factions or groups or those who are self-interested or the wealthy, I think Obama is fighting for all Americans, especially the middle class… Under Obama’s administration, everyone is given opportunity and equal rights.”
