    Ashley - Summer Organizer

A Florida State University student and Virginia native, Ashley E. is amongst the select group of new Summer Organizers that have just joined the campaign. Ashley is organizing in her hometown of Williamsburg. We asked her to tell us why she’s excited to build her organizing skills through our 9 week fellowship program and why she’s in for 2012. Here’s what she had to say:

“This summer I want to discover how to use my voice to affect change in my community and I want to teach others to use their voices too.

"Unlike many, I have been given the privilege to attend college and dictate my own future. However, I have watched individuals with just as much drive and intelligence as myself being crushed underneath the financial burdens placed upon them. To me, this is the greatest injustice of all. There are children who grow up believing they can never attend college and teenagers who desire this opportunity more than anything. A change is needed to lift these students from the abyss, and I believe that President Obama is bringing about this reform.

"As a naïve 17 year old, I watched the 2008 election in the passenger seat. This time around, I want to be an active participant in shaping the future.”

Don’t watch this election from the passenger seat. Join Ashley and a new Summer Organizer near you and take ownership over the campaign in your neighborhood. Click here to find chances to get involved in your area.
