With less than 50 days until the General Election we must move forward as encouraged by messages given during the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Here in South Carolina we are moving toward the goal of re-electing President Obama. Reflecting back there is still an optimistic feeling, when on the evening of Thursday, September 6th staff, supporters, and volunteers came together to watch President Obama accept the Democratic Party's nomination for President.
Although many of us who planned to see the President speech in North Carolina were disappointed with the venue change, we worked hard to organize a watch party to see the speech. We were excited to be able to share this historic moment together. We stood up in respect for President Obama when he walked on the stage; and jumped up on our feet and cheered during several key moments when his message resonated with us. Supporters in the Palmetto State know that we will play an important role in the President’s re-election. We are doing all we can to ensure our neighbor, North Carolina, turns blue again. – Candace Cunningham, 2012 Summer Organizing Fellow
Driven by the words of the President’s speech on Saturday, September 15th buses of students from Claflin University, South Carolina State University, and University of South Carolina headed to North Carolina to register voters. In addition students made phone calls to identify North Carolina supporters. Anyone who is wondering if young people are still encouraged and engaged in the campaign only needed to witness the excitement on the faces of the students.
