• “I've never done anything so rewarding”

Meet Ashly—an OFA volunteer turned OFA fellow.

Ashly B. is a recent college graduate from Colorado who became an OFA fellow after volunteering with OFA.

Ashly is passionate about all that OFA is and the issues it pushes for, but she is personally invested in working towards women’s rights. She took time out of her busy schedule to talk about her overall experience at OFA.

Q: What motivated you to become an organizing fellow?

Ashly: I had volunteered with OFA before and found that I really liked the way the organization was structured. When I got the opportunity to be an OFA fellow, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and further my development given OFA’s training-intensive programs and hands-on approach. And I was so right. It has been an amazing experience.

Q: What issue do you most care about?

Ashly: All of the issues we work on at OFA are so important to me that it’s hard to choose. But my absolute top issue is women's rights. I believe that until women are considered equal, we are not living up to the principles our country was founded on. Defending women's rights is what drives me every day to be part of shaping our country’s future.

Q: What is one of the proudest moments of your life?

Ashly: I have three nephews and one niece. I feel most proud when I see that they all look up to me. When they come to me for guidance, it is an amazing feeling. I am the youngest in my family by nine years, so I have spent my whole life looking up to my brother and two sisters. Now it’s an honor to be able to be someone my niece and nephews look up to. It is a way of giving back to my siblings for all they have taught me.

Q: What's a typical day like for you?

Ashly: I am about to graduate from college, so my plate is quite full with long to-do lists and homework. OFA events and phone banks are also a part of my routine. When I can, I like to sneak a run in, too.

Q: Now that you've graduated from college, what do you want to do?

Ashly: I will continue to work on the issues I care so deeply about. I’m very excited about what’s next. I've never done anything so rewarding.
