• Obama 2012 Has Pride in Our Outreach During Motor City Pride in Detroit

Hart Plaza, Detroit — With help from the Michigan Democratic Party LGBT caucus, we helped engage the LGBT community in Detroit during Motor City Pride over the weekend. The 2 day-festival brought in people from all over Michigan and included a parade, a rally, and lots of conversations on why we needed everyone in attendance to be IN for Obama 2012.

“This is great information that needs to get out there. I didn't know a lot of these accomplishments happened. Thank you for being here.” said Rhonda H who is now IN for Obama 2012.

A major goal of our participation in MCP is to educate the LGBT community on their advocate and supporter in the White House. Since taking office, the President has demonstrated that his vision for a brighter future includes greater equality for LGBT Americans. The President and his Administration have been dedicated to eliminating barriers to equality, fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and engaging LGBT communities across the country.

“When the President signed the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, I was happy but not fully on board because we have so many issues that we need addressed. When he came out and said that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional, I was sold! I'm In” said Rick L of Farmington Hills.

We had a lot of fun participating in the parade on Sunday. Our contingent included our 2011 Summer Organizers, members of the MDP LGBT Caucus, and grassroots leaders from across Michigan. We had the biggest group in the parade and marched down Jefferson Avenue chanting "Fired up! Ready to Go!". Throughout the festival we registered voters and got Michiganders from across the state sign up to be IN for Obama 2012.
