"When I came to New Mexico to help with President Obama’s campaign I was less than fired up.

Don’t get me wrong. I thought Barack Obama was doing a great job as President. He fought for equal rights for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community and helped veterans get reintegrated into the work world after returning home.

But what I was thinking before my time here was that I really didn’t want Mitt Romney as president. I came to New Mexico thinking, If I can help this guy get elected again, I wouldn’t have to fear four years under Romney.

But as I worked for a couple days, my views changed. I started to realize that President Obama had all the political views that I had and more. I looked at his record and realized that Obama has done some great things:

He pushed for new fuel standards for 2011 automobiles and required GM to restructure before offering them the financial assistance that ultimately revived the company. And who could forget bringing our troops home from Iraq?

I started to think, “Things can get better if Barack Obama gets re-elected!” And they will.

Already, President Obama has repealed 'Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,' endorsed an all-of-the-above energy policy, signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, and focused our military on eliminating Al-Queda.

I came out here with a rather cynical view of why President Obama should be re-elected and now understand what we as a country really have to gain from another 4 years. Instead of stopping Romney from being elected, I believe that our country can become even greater than it already is with President Obama’s leadership.

If President Obama is re-elected, I see a future of equality, a good job market, and added respect on the world stage. This is why I believe in President Obama."
