• Meet a Michigander: Amber M.

Amber, a summer organizing fellow in the Grand Rapids office, started volunteering for the campaign in 2008 and didn’t hesitate to rejoin the team in 2012.

“I loved it and had some of the greatest experiences of my life. So, at the end of last year when people got a hold of me and said: ‘We’re back together, we’re organizing again, and you should come on board,’ right away I started registering voters. As time progressed, I joined the summer fellows program.”

Amber supports the President because before the Affordable Care Act, she was living without health insurance.

“I’m 23 and I lived without insurance for more than 2 years. I couldn’t find insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Thanks to the ACA, I was able to go back on my parents’ insurance again. It makes me feel like the President really cares about people my age and I’ve never felt like that before in my life.”

What the President has done for Amber, and for countless others who she’s met through working on the campaign, keeps her going as she prepares for phone banks every night and sets up meetings with prospective volunteers.

“It’s time to jump in and volunteer with us because we have this unique opportunity to do good work in our community for a really good President. He’s not done yet, and we’re not done yet, and the only way to make sure that he has a chance to keep doing good work for our community is to become a part of the grassroots movement which has made us strong and is the reason that we won last time.”
