“It’s about neighbors getting together with neighbors,” said Judy S. when she was asked why she decided to host a State of the Union Watch Party on January 24th. Judy is an active volunteer in the Obama for America office in Albuquerque, frequently manning the front desk. She could have literally said, “I gave my time at the office” when approached by Pam Coleman, New Mexico State Field Director. However, she was happy to say “Yes.”
“I thought it would be fun to watch the State of the Union address with other people – to be able to watch President Obama speak, and then discuss it. It’s a lot better than watching it by myself. I like to hear others’ points of view and reactions. Since everyone is so busy, it’s also a nice way to bring neighbors together.”
On Tuesday, January 24th, President Obama will give his State of the Union address—and supporters across New Mexico are organizing parties in their neighborhoods to tune in. Can you have a few people over to watch? Once you sign up to host, we’ll provide you with everything you need to host a great event.
