• Field update: New Hampshire's not backing down

It was an exciting afternoon last Thursday for OFA New Hampshire volunteers. We paid a visit to our two senators, delivering more than 9,900 petition signatures from Granite Staters in support of expanded background checks for gun sales.

We stopped by Senator Shaheen's office and met with her gracious staff to say thank you for her vote and continued leadership on expanded background checks. Her staff was happy to pass along the thanks as well as the box filled with petition signatures.

We then walked up the block to Senator Ayotte's office, where one of our volunteers, Tracy, handed the box of petitions to a courteous staffer and then spoke eloquently about just how much support expanded background checks have here in New Hampshire. We urged Senator Ayotte to reverse her position and support background checks on all commercial sales, including gun shows and online sales, just like the majority of her constituents do.

Here in New Hampshire, we won't give up and we won't back down when it comes to gun violence prevention. We're doing our part to demand that our senators do what we elected them to do and take action to make our communities safer.

OFA chapters all over the country are with us in this and other fights—sign up to volunteer where you live and let's keep pushing.
