• Why I’m a Mom for Obama

When I cast my vote this November, I won’t just be thinking about my own future—I’ll be thinking about what this election will mean for my two-year-old daughter, Sinatra.

I didn’t have health insurance when I got pregnant, and I worried about how I would get access to quality and affordable health care. Inevitably I was being discriminated against for making the choice to become a mother. Thanks to the President, being a woman and expecting mother is no longer a pre-existing condition. And as a mom now trying to raise a young woman of my own, I feel better knowing that my daughter won’t be charged more for coverage just because she’s a woman.

As I travel throughout the country I meet parents from coast to coast who share the same concerns. We know that President Obama understands the struggles hardworking Americans families face, and he knows that for too long the deck has been stacked against us.

The choice we make in November will determine what the world will look like to my daughter for years to come. That’s why I’m so proud to be a part of Parents for Obama—because like me, President Obama believes that our children shouldn’t have to fight for basic rights like access to affordable health care or a good education.
