The choice on fuel efficiency
By on
The Obama administration finalized fuel economy standards for cars and light trucks that will further reduce our reliance on foreign oil and save consumers $8,200 at the pump over the life of their new fuel efficient vehicle. That’s a lot of savings for a lot of families!
Not only will these new standards save us money at the pump and mean that our cars will get more miles out of a gallon of gas, they will reduce our dependence on oil. In fact, when combined with other steps taken by President Obama, these standards will save 12 billion barrels of oil, enough to fill the Empire State Building almost 2,000 times. Today, at the announcement, the President said:
“These fuel standards represent the single most important step we’ve ever taken to reduce our dependence on foreign oil…It’ll strengthen our nation's energy security, it's good for middle-class families, and it will help create an economy built to last.”
On the other hand, Mitt Romney has repeatedly attacked fuel economy standards, and why wouldn’t he? Romney, Ryan, and their Super PAC allies have received more than $8.6 million from oil and gas interests as they fight to keep $4 billion in subsidies for Big Oil. Romney’s Big Oil-focused energy agenda would drive the country in reverse at the expense of consumers, the economy and our environment. President Obama’s fuel economy standards will cut our dependence on foreign oil by more than four times the amount that Mitt Romney’s one-size-fits-all drilling plan would – all while reducing carbon pollution and protecting the health of our kids. It’s an all-around win for American families.
Stand by the President and join Environmentalists for Obama today.
