When we asked Jess Steever if she'd be interested in getting involved in New Hampshire Obama Pride, she didn't just join up—she joined the steering committee. We asked Jess to share why she's supporting the President, and she told us that among the President's accomplishments, there's one thing in particular that really sums it up for her.

We see it in the news all the time—violence and bullying that springs from hate, and under President Obama, there's finally been some action to stop it:

"President Obama has been fighting for equality since he took office nearly four years ago: with the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' the men and women serving our country no longer have to lie about who they love, and having declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, the President's administration will no longer defend it in court. When he came out in full support for same-sex marriage back in May I knew he will continue to fight for equality."

We’ve come a long way but have a long journey in front of us, Jess shares:

"I do not want to see the progress we have made for LGBT Americans shot backwards by Governor Romney and Representative Ryan. Governor Romney and Representative Ryan will not help us move forward. There is just too much at stake for the LGBT community this November and I know that by doing this I'm doing my part to stand up for equality."
