Name: Brandon K. Hatton-Brown
Role: Field Organizer
Hometown: Dover, Delaware
Based in: Delaware County, Pennsylvania
Q1. How did you come to be involved in the campaign?
"Just last summer I became involved after attending the President’s birthday celebration in my neighborhood. The following week I signed up to become a Fall Fellow with OFA-Delaware and I’ve never looked back. It blows me away to think that in a few weeks I will have been with the campaign for an entire year—time flies!"
Q2. How have President Obama’s policies affected you and/or your family directly?
"Growing up watching my mother work two jobs just to make ends meet was always tough, but it was the months when those ends were nowhere near each other that brought me to support this President. Knowing that President Obama understands how disruptive an unplanned hospital visit or job loss can be to a single income household brought me to support him in 2008, but watching him fight tirelessly for affordable healthcare and job equality moved me to take an active role in his re-election."
Q3. What does a typical day look like for you?
"There is no such thing as a typical day in this field. Working with volunteers, leaders and activists requires that all organizers be as versatile and quick-witted as possible. Being an organizer demands the highest level of discipline and drive and I know that everyone here in OFA-Pennsylvania is up to the task, no matter what the day may bring."
Q4. What is your favorite part of being an organizer?
"Knowing that the work I do will be relevant to generations after me. We are pushing our country forward with every phone call and door knock, and that makes me proud."
Q5. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
"When I was a kid I wanted to be an Astronaut so bad that I begged my mother to send me to Space Camp. Afterwards, I concluded that space was very big and scary and I no longer wanted to be an astronaut."
