    VietFest

Vietnamese Americans for Obama organized a special outreach and voter registration drive during VietFest, an annual Vietnamese heritage festival that draws community members from across Northern Virginia. It was a great opportunity to connect with members of our community one-on-one, and, most importantly, to make sure people had the opportunity to register to vote for this upcoming election.

Volunteers from Vietnamese Americans for Obama, Korean Americans for Obama, and the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, came together to celebrate with the Vietnamese community. Here’s what motivated our supporters to step up:

“This election is so important and I wanted to make sure that I do my part to bridge language and cultural barriers, and get family and friends registered to vote this November. I am taking part in this campaign for my parents and grandparents.”
    —Binh, Woodbridge
“I am encouraged to see so much energy in the community; young Vietnamese American leaders are stepping up to the plate to help involve our community in innovative ways to make sure that people understand what’s at stake in this election.”
    —Tara, Bethesda
“For our community, allowing young Vietnamese Americans under 26 to stay on their parents’ health insurance, lowering prescription payments for our elders, providing preventive care access to women, and ensuring patients with pre-existing conditions would not be denied coverage make it all that much more urgent to protect the Affordable Care Act.”
    —Nguyen, Falls Church
“Vietnamese Americans are not so concerned with party affiliation; it’s about the issues that impact our communities. A woman shared with me that she will be voting for President Obama because of his leadership on health care and increased business opportunities for small businesses. This makes it all worth it for me.”
    —Toa, Annandale

Having one-on-one conversations, sharing our stories, and connecting heart-to-heart—that’s what this campaign is about.
