Monday night in Fayetteville we had a great night with our Veterans’ kickoff event with Attorney General of Delaware Beau Biden. President Obama recently unveiled a comprehensive plan to help veterans transition back to work through hiring tax credits and new veterans’ job programs. North Carolina has over 770,000 veterans, and these initiatives will help our returning heroes find jobs when they get home.

In his remarks before a packed house of supporters, Biden talked about President Obama’s commitment to North Carolina’s veterans and military families

President Obama knows we owe veterans and their families the care they were promised and the benefits they have earned. That's why he's committed to delivering to all of our men and women who have served in uniform the health care and benefits they need, the opportunity to rejoin the workforce and access to a college education through the post-9/11 GI Bill.

Biden was joined at the event by Donna Mansfield and Councilwoman Val Applewhite, 2008 North Carolina Veterans for Obama co-chair.   Mansfield and Applewhite—who have both served in the military—had this to say:

Seeing families struggle through multiple deployments motivated us to organize veterans and military families in support of Barack Obama in 2008.  After years of overextended deployments abroad and under-funded benefits at home, we found a man who could restore the sacred trust that our elected leaders should hold with veterans and military families.

I'm excited, I'm fired up and honored to once again join the Veterans and Military Families for Obama. President Obama is the reason I'm a part of this effort. He believes that the commitment we have to our veterans begins with their oath – and it never ends.
