Last Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, Don Johnson’s Nu-U Barbershop & Beauty Salon was the place to be. A packed crowd inside waiting for their haircuts was met by an excited group of supporters outside who were fired up for the Barack-the-Block party.

At Nu-U last weekend, customers were heard talking about what’s going on in the community, what their kids are up to, and what President Obama has accomplished. Don, whose barber chair was always filled, talked about how barbershops provide a perfect place for neighbors to discuss the issues:

“The barbershop is a place in the community where people come together. You have the men in the community, the women in the community, they come together and they sit down and talk about the issues just like they would in a political debate.”

Don also talked about how the support for President Obama is evident in his shop. From the passage of the Affordable Care Act to the work the President is doing to advance the nation’s lowest-performing schools, Don’s customers know that the President has their backs—and that they need to have his:

“It’s important to have a President who talks about real issues that real people deal with.”

Don has the President’s back—which is why he has set up his shop as a voter registration area in Charlotte. Join Don in supporting President Obama by signing up to volunteer in your neighborhood.
