    Dear Mr. President,

As a young person who has been in a committed relationship with a same-sex Australian partner for over five years, your statement on same-sex marriage gives me hope that I may not always have to choose between the person I love and the country that I call home. Now, as I watch my heterosexual peers getting married and starting their lives with their significant others, I can believe that such a future is possible for myself as well. Thank you for your intelligence, compassion, and willingness to evolve your perspective. I confidently put my future in your hands, knowing that you will shape the United States into a country that young Americans will be proud to inherit.

    —Meaghin, California
