I wanted to make sure that you saw Monday’s speech from the President to the 113th National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. You can read the full speech here.

The President delivered a strong case for continued American leadership in the world, and he made clear his commitment to the welfare of our troops and their families who sacrifice so much for our nation and those who are oppressed around the world. Our veterans should never come back from service and struggle to get health care, a job or an education. So the President has worked to provide businesses tax credits for hiring unemployed veterans and wounded warriors; he secured the largest increase in VA funding in decades to ensure our veterans get the care and benefits they earned; and he expanded and improved the Post-9/11 GI Bill so those who serve and their families can get help paying for college.

The President knows that part of our commitment to our troops is bringing America’s decade of war to an end. That’s why he kept his promise to end the war in Iraq and is bringing our troops home from Afghanistan.

The President also talked a great deal about the importance of making sure our actions match our ideals as a nation. That is why we ended torture. That is why we intervened in situations we could to protect human life in places like Libya and assisted in the pursuit of Joseph Kony. That is why the President reached an agreement on the historic New START treaty, which moves us one step closer to the goal envisioned by President Kennedy and renewed by President Obama in Prague: “the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.” New START was a priority from many religious groups—from the National Association of Evangelicals to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

To tell you the truth, I’m pretty fired up after the President’s speech today. I think that when we look back at the last three-and-a-half years, we’ll recognize this as the time when America positioned itself for another century of global leadership in a changing world. This record is one of the reasons why people of faith, and all Americans, should support the President in this election.

Please watch this new campaign video, “Welcoming Home Our Veterans,” and share it with your friends and families.

Thank you to all of our veterans and their families who have made sacrifices for us and our country.
