Too often, women pay more than men for their health care, and insurance companies have long been free to discriminate based on gender. The Affordable Care Act is cracking down on these practices to make sure all of us pay a fair rate and have access to the services we need.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, women are already benefiting from big changes:

Today, insurance companies are offering many preventive services for free, including prenatal screenings, mammograms, and colonoscopies.

Soon contraception, well-woman visits, and HPV testing will also be available without a co-pay or deductible.

And starting in 2014:

No woman can be charged more than a man for the same coverage.

Insurance plans will be required to cover a full range of maternity services.
