Yesterday, the U.S. forces flag flying over Baghdad was officially retired, signaling the end of the war and a promise kept. With our remaining combat troops in Iraq on their way home, this week’s Friday Facts takes a look at how the President has fought to expand and improve benefits for veterans and their families—from access to health care to the educational and career opportunities they deserve.

    Here’s a preview:

100,000: Number of unemployed veterans or military spouses the President challenged private sector businesses to hire or train

1.8 million: Women veterans who will benefit from new programs established by the President’s Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010, including child care, reintegration and readjustment training, and sexual trauma counseling

Up to $9,600: Amount individual businesses could receive in tax credits for hiring unemployed and disabled veterans
