    2012 Campaign HQ June 2011

    Name: Marlon Marshall
Job Title: Deputy National Field Director
    Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
    Based in: Chicago, Illinois

Q1. What does a day at work look like?
I manage a team of five and we meet each morning to review our progress in the states and what we can be doing to support our folks on the ground. I’m involved in some longer-term projects too, and everything is focused on making sure we’re giving the states the resources they need to win.

Q2. How did you first come to the campaign?
I worked for Hillary in the ’08 primaries. After she lost, there was an opening on the Obama campaign in my home state of Missouri. I wanted to do my part to ensure we elected a President who fights for the values I believe in, and I’ve been a part of the family ever since. I was at the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) the last two years. I knew that this fight in 2012 was going to be extremely important. I wanted to be a part of it, so here I am.

Q3. What’s your favorite part of your job?
The people. Out in the states, we have the most amazing, talented and dedicated staff who work hard day in and day out. We also have an amazing team of people here in Chicago—everyone is so smart and focused on how to help our states be successful. My absolute favorite part of the job is our volunteers. I was in Nevada this weekend for the weekend of action, and to see our volunteers have such enthusiasm and such commitment one year out—if that doesn’t get you fired up to go to work every day, I don’t know what will.

Q4. What’s the most unexpected part of your job?
It’s different from all the other races I’ve worked on—I’ve always worked for the challenger before. Working to re-elect the President brings with it a different dynamic, and each day we need to make sure we’re telling the story of what he’s done and where this country is going the best way we can.

Q5. Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I’m a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals (World Series champs!!!) and Kansas Jayhawks fan. Fifty percent of the words that come out of my mouth are about them.
