Campaign role: General Election Director, Pennsylvania

Organizing in: Pennsylvania
Q1. What do you do for the campaign?
I am the General Election Director for the campaign in Pennsylvania. That means I work with our State Director and Senior Leadership to develop our Pennsylvania strategy and oversee our day to day operations in the state.
Q2. How did you first come to the campaign?
I first got involved in 2007 by attending a Camp Obama in Chicago. I joined the team as an organizer in Iowa and traveled to seven primary states before working the ’08 general election in Michigan.
Q3. What’s your favorite part of your role?
The best part of my role now is that I have the chance to think creatively about how our various departments can work together to strengthen our teams and expand our outreach. In Pennsylvania, we have come up with a lot of interesting programs and ideas because of the collaboration between Field, Data, Digital, Operation Vote, and our other departments. I like being in a position to facilitate that interaction.
Q4. What’s the most unexpected part of your role?
I think what is funny is how many of the skills I learned as an organizer translate still. You have to be flexible, empowering, goal focused, metrics driven, and absolutely relentless, because this all matters so much.
Q5. Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
Before attending Camp Obama I was working at an actual summer camp as a high ropes course instructor.
