Just a few months ago, President Obama became the first sitting president to support marriage equality with these simple words:
“I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”
Earlier today, the drafting committee for the Democratic National Committee unanimously voted to follow our President’s stride forward and add marriage equality as part of the party platform for the 2012 Convention.
Next, the full platform committee will vote, followed by a final vote by the delegates at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
As Congressman Barney Frank said when announcing this decision,
“Now, it’s up to us to speak up for what [President Obama] has called a simple proposition: that every single American deserves to be treated equally.”
