“An industry that’s putting people to work”
By on
On Tuesday, Mitt Romney vowed to let wind energy tax credits expire at the end of this year. These incentives are key to helping companies develop a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. Wind energy not only cleans up the environment, but also creates jobs here at home. Mitt Romney’s plan would harm both the environment and the economy.
Unlike his opponent, President Obama has made strengthening the wind industry, and the clean energy sector as a whole, a priority. The President knows that “the country that harnesses the power of clean, renewable energy will lead the 21st century.”
President Obama understands the benefits of developing wind energy domestically. His plan to grow the wind industry is expected to create over 100,000 jobs by 2016 and 500,000 by 2030. However, Mitt Romney, on the other hand, would give big oil over $4 billion dollars in tax breaks while letting the wind energy tax credit, and the 37,000 jobs that it helps support, expire.
