Four years ago today, the Obama-Biden grassroots team in Virginia put out this video as a pep talk going into the final days of the campaign.
Thanks to the hard work of volunteers who watched this video back then, and thanks to organizers all over the state, President Obama won Virginia and the election.

Grassroots volunteers are going to make the difference in places that could be decided by a handful of votes next Tuesday. Lucky for Iowa, people like Murph are on the team. Last year, Murph got a call from a local organizer asking him to get involved. He showed up at the Bettendorf office the next day, and now he’s made more than 16,000 calls for President Obama.
Why does Murph think making calls is such a great way to impact this election?
"If folks have got some time—one hour or two hours, one day a week or two days a week, whatever they can do—it's going to pay off in the long run by getting the President re-elected.

Rosalind, a volunteer leader with OFA-Pennsylvania, is committed to raising her children as active citizens.
“When I was growing up, my community did a great job of teaching me about the importance of voting and playing an active role in the political process. My high school vice principal would meet students on their 18th birthday with a voter registration form in his hand. I remember feeling so excited and proud about finally being old enough to cast my ballot. Generations of Americans have fought for the rights we have, and we honor their memory when we use those rights.

Genevieve, a student in Madison, Wisconsin, tells the story of how a grassroots campaign event inspired her to do everything she can to make sure President Obama wins her state on Election Day.
“I knew coming to the University of Wisconsin, it was really important to be involved in the political process, because I feel that it goes hand-in-hand with getting an education. I won’t be able to have an education if there aren’t people advocating for students in Washington.
“My dad was the first in his family to go to college, and I will need access to affordable student loans to get the education I want. Not having factors holding you back that are out of your control, that’s why I support the President.
“My friend has been volunteering for a while and encouraged me to join when the President came to campus, so I registered voters as they were walking to Bascom Hill. There were hundreds of other volunteers helping people register to vote—it was great to see all those like-minded people. A lot of people we’re passing by and telling us 'good job' as they walked by and 'thank you' to us for being out there, and we really appreciated it.

With Pennsylvania’s voter registration deadline less than a week away, the Drexel University team in Philadelphia is preparing to make the most of this weekend.
“I’m absolutely going to be out there all weekend registering voters. Voting is an important part of what makes our country great, and I want as many people as possible to be able to participate. Registering voters is also a lot of fun. It’s allowed me to meet a bunch of new people around campus who are as passionate about this election as I am.”

“I’m a freshman at Drexel this year and I started volunteering the day after I moved in. It’s important to me to register voters because I think it’s everyone’s duty to vote. When the election could come down to your state, you have to make sure you stand up for who you believe in. I believe in President Obama, and that’s why I’ll be out there this weekend.”

With Michigan's voter registration deadline approaching next Tuesday, October 9th, Team Lansing is in “all hands on deck registration mode.” They've registered voters at bus stations, churches, and even Michigan State University football tailgates—and will be almost anywhere there’s foot traffic this weekend for Michigan's voter registration weekend of action.

69-year-old Dorothy Touchstone lives in Texas, and she has a skin condition that prevents her from spending much time outside. But she doesn’t let that stop her from making a difference in this election.
“The only things I know how to do on a computer are what I love doing—staying in touch with my kids, keeping up with the news, and making phone calls for the President.”
From her home in LaPorte, Dorothy has made thousands of phone calls using the Obama 2012 call tool and stands alone atop the caller leaderboard.
Read More…“I try to sit down and make calls at least three or four times a week. But when I sit down, I make up my mind that I’m gonna do 100 calls or more. My goal is 200, and I have gone over 250 before. I’ll start around 1:00 p.m. and I’ll finish around 7:00 p.m. with a break in between.
“Even if they’re not home, I talk to the person who’s there. With one lady, I said, well I was calling for this person, but since I have you on phone, can you get your entire family to vote for President Obama?”
