"The first ballot I cast was in 1944 for FDR's fourth term. I was barely 21-years old and stationed in New Guinea during World War II flying combat missions. As soldiers, we were encouraged to vote by absentee ballot, so we all sat together and filled out our ballots in our tents.

"Now I'm proud to stand with President Obama as a veteran and as a senior.

"I know that President Obama has the best interests for my community. He's protecting Medicare, not turning it into a voucher! Obamacare is something that's been long overdue. As a veteran, it's important to me that he brought our troops home from Iraq and took out Osama bin Laden.

"People need to put their actions where their heart is and get involved. Unfortunately I can't knock on doors, but I make phone calls and it's great, I've met some pretty fine people. There's not even two weeks left to do everything we can, and we need to. Let's re-elect this President.

Volunteer in Florida

When Betty went to see President Obama this week in Delray Beach, she had no idea that her earrings would steal the show.

"My daughter sent me these earrings and I just love them! When the President finished his speech and walked off the stage he pointed towards me, then he pointed toward my earrings.

"He said, 'Michelle is on the front of your earrings and I'm on the back?' I told him 'That's how it should be!' He instantly burst into laughter and said 'You're right, those are some great earrings.'

"Everyone needs to vote for the President, he needs to finish the work he started. My husband and I have been canvassing and phone banking. We went out for three hours the other morning!

This morning Madaleine joined thousands of Floridians in Delray Beach who packed the house to see President Obama. She felt compelled to come out and show her support because President Obama is standing up for people like her.

Thanks to Obamacare, Madaleine knows if her breast cancer were ever to come back again, she can't be denied the care she needs due to having a pre-existing condition. That's just one reason why she will be heading to the polls when Early Voting starts later this week.

She won't be going by herself though. Madaleine is going to bring along her 87-year old father, a World War II veteran, so he can make his voice heard too. Because this election is coming down to the wire it's important that all of President Obama's supporters turn out and vote.

Teresa recently got the opportunity of a lifetime – the chance to meet President Obama backstage before a grassroots event in Miami. After hearing about the Backstage with Barack promotion, she entered, never imagining she'd be chosen.

"It was an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life. It was just so much fun, and I felt so exhilarated. He was so real, and so friendly. He even leaned in for a hug."

She brought along a copy of The Audacity of Hope and the President signed it for Teresa's children too.

This family isn't done yet though. Teresa has signed up for more volunteer shifts, and her husband and kids are getting involved, too.

With 17 days to go, they are determined to make sure Florida pulls through for President Obama.

Last weekend I traveled to the battleground state of Florida to speak with women there about the dangers of having Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the White House.

When Republicans like Paul Ryan and Todd Akin took control of the House of Representatives, they voted to end cancer screenings and well-women visits for over 5 million women. They voted to end funding for Planned Parenthood, which serviced over 3 million women last year. They voted against insurance coverage for birth control, and even tried to redefine rape.

Now, Mitt Romney is trying to pretend that he isn’t one of them. But women aren’t fooled.

When it comes to issues like reproductive health, job creation, student loans, and protecting Medicare – issues that are as important to women here in Florida as they are across the country – we all know that Mitt Romney does not support us.

President Obama has stood with women from day one.

The very first bill he signed was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which ensures women can fight back against pay discrimination. He also doubled Pell Grants, allowing more women than ever before to achieve quality education at an affordable cost. And thanks to the Affordable Care Act, preventive screenings and birth control are now covered for 4.7 million Floridians.

As I travel across the country, I come face to face with the people who have benefited from President Obama’s policies the most: women. President Obama has had our backs. Now, we need to have his.

Yesterday thousands of supporters joined President Obama for a grassroots event in Coral Gables. Jimmy is a University of Miami student who brought along his classmate, Eric, to see the President.

"I support President Obama because we're students and come from middle class families — those things make it impossible not to stand with Barack Obama.

The last time we voted for Barack Obama we were seniors in high school and now that we're in our final year of college, he has not disappointed us. Thanks to him we have less to pay in student loans and he doubled Pell Grant funding.

With the election coming up we're going to have his back, and I'm going to do that by casting my ballot for Barack Obama."

On the night of September 6th, a small group of neighbors gathered around a television in South Miami to watch Barack Obama accept his party’s nomination for President of the United States. The hosts of the evening, Michael and Chris, along with their daughters Kayla and Trina, have been deeply involved with the President’s re-election campaign, so they invited their friends over for a Democratic National Convention watch party.

By the end of the night, the group made a unanimous decision: They needed a campaign office of their own, in their neighborhood, where they could collaborate and coordinate efforts to help the President win re-election.

Exactly one month later, on October 6th, Michael, Chris, and almost 100 others gathered again—this time, at a transformed storefront on Southwest 70th Street, to celebrate the opening of a brand new Organizing for America office.

They were joined by businessman Russell Simmons, who inspired the crowd with a reminder of how important their work is.

“It’s critical that we get the President re-elected—that we give it all we’ve got,” he said.
