    8:30 AM:

I pulled up to the Camden County Democratic headquarters in Cherry Hill. Looking around, it was obvious that I was the first to arrive—I was so excited that I couldn’t help but show up 45 minutes early. The next person to pull into the parking lot was Pat, a supporter of President Obama from the start, and an avid volunteer for the past three months. We connected instantly and started chatting about where we’re from, why we were here, and how much we needed coffee. Pat is working for Barack Obama for one simple reason: “Our President is above the fray, and that is what the country needs.”

    9:00 AM:

Within 30 minutes, the parking lot had filled up with cars emblazoned with Obama bumper stickers. Eric, a team leader from Camden County, pulled us together for a quick huddle, made sure everyone had some campaign gear, and broke us out into carpool groups. My new coffee-loving friend Pat, a fellow summer organizer Kevin, and I shared a car.

    9:45 AM:

We arrived at the wonderful Media, Pennsylvania OFA office and were warmly welcomed by Alexis, the deputy field director. The office was filled to the brim with supporters and plenty of OFA signs and decoration.

    10:30 AM:

We finished our training with Alexis and we were off! I was paired up with Simone, a high school student in Ewing, New Jersey by day, and summer organizing fellow by night.

    12:00 PM:

We arrived at our canvassing spot, a lovely neighborhood in Media where every house has its own personality. Throughout the afternoon, we were met with love and support for our President! Even the people who were in a rush and didn’t have time to talk still wanted some campaign literature and gave us a big thumbs up. One supporter we met—a woman with three children in college—said she wouldn't think of voting for anyone else. Barack Obama has her kids’ backs, and for that she is thanking him with her vote.

    3:00 PM:

After a successful day on the doors, we headed back to Media headquarters and took a breather. We talked with the other canvassers about their days and the consensus was the same—it was a great day to garner support for President Obama! Cherry Hill couple Meryl and Gerry are supporters because the President is a person who takes action “because it’s the right thing to do,” not for political gain.

This canvassing quartet is in for President Obama for several reasons. Enid knows that our country needs to keep moving forward. Joe wants someone in the White House who understands fairness, equality, and the value of dignity. Olivia knows that Barack Obama is the only candidate who truly understands middle class values. And Rosemary believes our President represents Americans like her because, “he is for the people of America, that’s it.”
